Let’s face it, finding that sweet spot between work and the rest of life can be tricky, especially when your home is your office. But at Intelligent Demand (ID), we’re all about empowering our team to do their best work and enjoy their lives, no matter where they’re working from. One way we do that is through our intentional communications approach.

What is Intentional Communication?

We’ve all been there – the Monday morning inbox overload. Yikes. That’s why we decided to change things up. At Intelligent Demand, we’ve implemented an Intentional Communication policy to help our ID’ers maintain balance across time zones.

With intentional communication, we avoid messaging each other outside of work hours unless it’s absolutely urgent. We often use the Scheduled Send feature for Slack messages and emails to avoid out-of-hours notifications. If something truly can’t wait, a quick phone call or text is usually the way to go.

To keep things running smoothly, some of us also set our work hours on Google Calendar. ID follows a ‘Standard Calendar’ that sets company-wide windows for employee training, department syncs, and no-meeting blocks. That way, when we’re scheduling meetings, we can easily find a time that works for everyone. It’s a small change, but it makes a big difference in respecting everyone’s time and energy.

Making Remote Work Across the U.S.

From Pacific to Eastern, we’ve got ID’ers spread out across almost all U.S. time zones. We know that building a strong, inclusive team means respecting those differences, not just in location, but in time too.

When we’re planning meetings, we always consider everyone’s time zone and try to find a time that works for all. It’s a simple way to foster a sense of connection and respect among our team, no matter where they’re logging in from.

Be You, Do Great Things

At ID, we’re encouraged to be ourselves, follow our interests, and try new things. We believe that when people feel supported and respected, they’re able to do their best work and be their best selves.

Our intentional communications approach is just one of the ways we show our commitment to everyone’s well-being. By respecting each other’s time and personal lives, we create a work environment where everyone can feel valued and productive.
